Meet April
Hi there! I am so glad you are here! My name is April McNamara and I have been an occupational therapist (OT) for 18+ years. To me, OT is a combination of: Art + Science + Helping People do the things they want to do. It's also about incorporating meaningful and purposeful activities to promote function and independence. I have a passion for spaces and interacting with the environment created in a home. In a way, our homes are an extension of us. There is something therapeutic that happens internally when you begin to transform your home into a supportive place that reflects the authentic you.
Mission:
Our mission is to empower caregivers, families & individuals to create functional, supportive homes that foster authentic living.
At Functional Living with April, we believe that helping people to be able to help themselves & care for their families sparks a ripple effect, building compassionate, resilient communities. Our dedication to "Living in Place" emphasizes family, meaningful experiences, community resources, wellness and enhancing quality of life within functional, supportive homes.
The model above depicts key themes about Functional Living with April. The house represents "Home," which is encompassed by, "Community." Concepts are rooted in Occupational Science, incorporating components of wellness design, function, meaning & purpose as well as fun & joy (particularly play & leisure) within the home.
